RESILIENCE DURING THE CORONOVIRUS
Life has certainly changed in all of lives. Most people do not like change and have a strong need to know which makes them feel safe. The unknown is a very scary place for most people. So how do live in this world of uncertainty? How do we stop the suffering and fear?
One way to help ourselves be resilient is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is moment-to-moment awareness of what is- simply being present one moment at a time in a gentle non-judgmental way. When we are overwhelmed by fears about illness, finances or what the future may hold, it can be very helpful simply to pause, to breathe and focus on his one moment and put our fears on the back burner. The past is over and gone and the future speculative. So our only power is being in the moment, in the now.
As we go through each day it is important to remember to breathe. When we do this, we have caught our own attention and detached from the mind creating the fearful thoughts Take in a gentle full breath in and gentle full breath out. Each time again and again letting go of thoughts and fearful and stories that the mind is telling you. Taking a minute to breathe gently and fully will help clear your mind and calm your body and nurture resilience.
Go out in nature wherever you are and simply be present. Feel the air on your skin. Smell the flowers. Hear the sounds around you like the birds or the winds. Be aware of the sunlight or shade or the clouds. In this moment, notice what is going on around you. Getting out of your mind and connecting with the beauty of our beautiful earth in full bloom.
When feelings and events become overwhelming, it is time to clear the mind, calm the body and remember to breath. Allow yourself to be nurtured by nature. Reach out to connect with people you love and take a breath right now ! Nature is resilient and you are too. I am reminded of the crocuses that have to push through the hard dirt of winter in order to grow towards the light to grow and bloom. We are that too.
Remember that choice and power are in living in the moment. That is where choice lives breath by breath. Do we want to live in love or fear?
